Over the last few months, I’ve been on a short-term detour from composing and performing my music. Why, you ask? I’ve been writing a book. Imagine that! It all began when my wife and I watched a film by comedian Bill Maher called Religulous (the title being a hybrid of the words “religious” and “ridiculous”). Bill Maher is well noted for his comedic insults of virtually anything considered sacred. In this pseudo-documentary film, Mr. Maher travels the world, conducting interviews with people of all faiths and creeds, trying to figure out how people can believe what he sees as simply preposterous notions (the truths of Christianity included). His “Religulous” movie gives wonderful insight into the mind of a thinking “doubter” as he would call himself. He asks a lot of questions of Christian people (i.e. The virgin birth being such an amazing claim, how come two of Jesus’ biographers don’t even mention it in their gospels? How can Christians believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and yet profess faith in only one God? How can anyone believe in a six-thousand year old earth?). He comes up with very few intellectually satisfying answers. (Click MORE) |
